Environmental impact

The Golden Gate Park disc golf
course at Marx Meadow shows
serious environmental damage

On March 31, 2007, the San Francisco Disc Golf club - with the blessing of the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department - opened the Golden Gate Park Disc Golf course. The club promised to shepherd their patch of land in the beloved park.

On this page are seven before and after pictures of the Golden Gate disc golf course showing how the area has changed after three years of heavy use. Even granting the club's efforts at "maintaining" the Golden Gate Park course, the evidence of three years' environmental degradation is clear.

Pictures say more than words.
Judge for your self.

Traffic along the paths has removed pre-existing groundcover, leaving bare ground.

Over time... the course will create a more open, less densely vegetated space. Young trees and shrubs will be absent from the "fairways".
